Welcome to The Source! We are so happy you’re here. The Source is Hugh & Grace’s weekly blog that is dedicated to raising awareness surrounding the harmful effects that Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals (EDCs) have on our bodies. Our goal is to provide helpful resources, knowledge, and tips to our followers about EDCs.
Hugh & Grace is a first of its kind company. There is no other company in the world that promises hormone safe ingredients – except for us.  “Hormone-safe†means to be protected from, and/or not exposed to, any interference of our natural hormone (also known as endocrine) system. Our products are always hormone-safe, meaning each product excludes known EDCs and are also designed to help detox, repair, and protect your skin from toxic chemicals and hormone disruptors.
EDCs are hormone disruptors that interfere with the way the body’s natural hormones work. If you’re like most people, when you hear hormones, you think about puberty, pregnancy and menopause.  Believe it or not, hormones are responsible for much, much more.
Hormones are chemical messengers that influence and control a wide range of physiological activities such as growth, development, regulating sugar levels and body temperature, bone growth, appetite, metabolism, energy levels and yep, you guessed it – puberty, pregnancy and menopause.
EDCs are linked to infertility, endometriosis, early puberty, altered nervous system function, immune function, certain cancers, respiratory problems, metabolic issues, diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular problems, growth, neurological and learning disabilities, and more. These chemicals are found in many everyday products, including some plastic bottles and containers, food-can liners, detergents, toys, cosmetics, and pesticides.
In fact, toxic chemical exposures are responsible for as much as 70% of chronic disease (Million Marker). These rates have rapidly increased over the last 50 years. Many of the negative health impacts that EDCs are known to cause are much more prevalent today – ADHD, food allergies, early puberty, obesity, autism, and low sperm count (just to name a few).  Study after study has shown that these increases can be directly tied to chemicals in our food supply, environment and household and personal care products.
The average woman puts on 12 products a day, which amounts to 168 unique chemicals. The average man puts on about 85 unique chemicals a day. If you replace just a few of your personal care items with Hugh & Grace products, you will significantly decrease the number of EDCs you put on your body every day, thereby reducing the dangerous impact these harmful chemicals will have on you.
Of the approximately 80,000 chemicals that are used in the United States, we do not know how many can become a part of our chemical body burden. What we do know is that several hundred of these chemicals have been measured in people’s bodies around the world, and that these chemicals can have detrimental effects on our health.
At Hugh & Grace, we believe that knowledge is power.  Currently, there is no FDA standard for clean. This means you, as a consumer, need to do a LOT of research – or, better yet, turn to someone you can trust. That’s us. We’ve spent years researching with an unwavering commitment to demystify and solve the issue of chemical load.  There are actions you can take to protect yourself and your family, and we promise to give you all the information that you need to successfully navigate the world of EDCs.
You may be questioning your ability to impact such a large issue. But we argue that change starts, and can only be made, by you! Your consumer buying power and social influence is immense. Once you start making a change, start sharing this change with your circle, and encourage them to do the same.
Our mission is to reduce your chemical exposure, or the amount of chemicals in the body at any given time. We aren’t asking you to examine every item in your household and throw out anything that has EDCs. Instead, we want to offer you small and reasonable changes that you can make that will have a big impact on your body, and family’s bodies.
While the concept of EDCs may seem overwhelming, our intention is not cause alarm but to create more awareness and education. We cannot remove EDCs from your everyday life, but we can help you reduce them.  We want to help you learn how you can reduce your chemical body load so that you and your loved ones can live a happier, healthier and cleaner life.
